The Spring Hill School District is excited to announce its district elementary and secondary winners for the 2023 Teacher of the Year award. This award recognizes the district's outstanding certified teachers who excel in the areas of student success, content expertise, innovation and service to the profession.

USD 230’s elementary Teacher of the Year is Adrienne Besler from Timber Sage Elementary School. Besler is in her seventh year of teaching and currently teaches third grade at TSES.

"Ms. Besler is a kind and compassionate educator who puts relationships first,” said Timber Sage Elementary School Principal Meka Bauer. “She sets high expectations for learning and behavior, and equips her students with the tools they need to be successful. Ms. Besler's work is making a profound difference in the lives of the children she serves. We are so thankful that Ms. Besler has chosen to do her life's work here at TSES!"

USD 230’s secondary Teacher of the Year is Jessica Gazzano from Woodland Spring Middle School. Gazzano is in her seventh year of teaching and teaches art at WSMS.

"Jessica Gazzano stands out as a teacher who understands the importance of student engagement in learning," said Woodland Spring Middle School Principal Rod Sprague. “Her instruction and content is innovative. More importantly, she understands the importance of relationships in creating a culture of learning.”

Each year the Kansas State Department of Education sponsors a statewide competition looking for two outstanding teachers to become its Teacher of the Year. Our two district honorees will submit applications to be considered for the state’s award. The regional recognition ceremony will be in Overland Park on March 27, 2022, and the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year Leadership Conference and Award Banquet will be held in Wichita on September 24, 2022.
