The Spring Hill School District is pleased to announce two new middle school assistant principals for the 2020-2021 school year. Callie Weitzel will be joining the Spring Hill Middle School team as the assistant principal and athletic director and Zachary Harwood will assume the responsibilities of the Woodland Spring Middle School assistant principal and athletic director.

Weitzel lives in Overland Park with her husband and two children. Her husband is also in education as a district director for Center School District in Kansas City, MO.

She has two bachelor’s degrees, one in English Literature and History and the other in education. Additionally, she completed two master’s degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and School Leadership. Weitzel served as Blue Valley School District’s K-12 Literacy Coordinator for the last 13 years.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to serve as a leader for the Spring Hill Middle School, said Weitzel. “As a leader, I will strive to build positive relationships among students, families, and staff to foster and support the academic and personal growth for all of our SHMS students.”

Harwood is a Kansas native, born in Lawrence and raised in Perry. He and his wife Caitlin recently moved to Olathe and are expecting their first child.

With seven years in education, Harwood has served as an 8th-grade science teacher in Lawrence Kansas public schools and assistant principal/athletic director in Santa Fe Trail public schools. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas and earned a master’s degree in School Leadership from Baker University.

“I am excited and honored to be part of the Spring Hill team,” said Harwood. “I hope to provide positive solutions, opportunities, and stability to help students and staff succeed.”
